NEW LEAF LEARNING
A classroom without walls
I have been teaching children with Special Needs for 25 years until 2010. Having run New Leaf Salads for a year I realised there was something missing. I now have student Adults with learning difficulties working with me in the New Leaf Salad garden. It is like a classroom without walls - it works well for all of us.
New Leaf Learning encourages a respect for others in all that we do. My students and learners are involved in every aspect of the business including dealing with clients, counting money and taking orders.
The work includes
• Sowing seeds
• Pricking out small plants
• Spreading compost
• Fleecing beds
• Weeding
• Picking leaves
• Washing leaves
• Weighing and packing leaves
• Labelling bags
We work on literacy and numeracy skills in all we do and I will support areas of need.
The students will learn about
• How plants grow
• Soil preparation
• The variety of salad plants
• The effects of weather on plants
• The seasons
• Working with clients
• Running a small business
• Teamwork
